Hello Class of 2017!
Welcome to UA! We hope you are enjoying your time at Bama Bound! This particular blog is for the honors college students.
As the school year has ending and we are all knee-deep into summer vacation, your fall course schedule may be the farthest thing from your mind. However, for honors students, the sooner you knock out your honors classes, the better.
The Honors College requires that you obtain 12 credits in honors electives and 6 credits in honors seminars. It’s a great idea to get those electives out of the way during your freshman and sophomore year, because most honors options are only offered with 100 and 200 level classes. If you wait until you are an upperclassman, you might find yourself having to take a 100 or 200 level class in a category for which you already received credit as a lowerclassman.
Make sense? C&IS offers 100 or 200 level classes with an honor’s option. This allows you to earn a required credit AND an honors credit at the same time! Talk about killing two birds with one stone… Just make sure that when you are scheduling your classes, look at the course description to ensure it is an honor’s class. Unfortunately, the amount of honors classes in the College of C&IS is limited. If an honor’s class is not offered, ask your instructor if he or she would mind giving you extra course work to earn an honors credit in a regular class. Honor’s classes shift every semester.
The honors class offered by C&IS for Fall 2013: Com 123, Honors Public Speaking.
Please, feel free to contact us with any questions you may have about honors classes or anything else. Or, as always, just look for the red jacket ambassadors roaming around Reese Phifer.
